Kiskiack Golf Course in Williamsburg

Kiskiack Golf Club

Kiskiack Golf Club is a John LaFoy design that provides an outstanding 18 hole golf course.  The golf course is a favorite for locals and golf travelers alike.  The resort style-country club feel provides a fun, yet challenging experience for golfers of all skill levels.  Kiskiack offers 5 sets of tees, that range and up to almost 6800 yards.  The front nine allows you to relax as the course flows through natural terrain, rolling hills, and mature hardwoods, along with 2 lakes that come into play throughout the round, before a testing uphill finish.  The back will provide more enjoyment, yet plenty of trouble for much of the 9 holes, if you hit the ball to far right off the tee.  Starting of the back nine is a par 4 with an elevated tee that dog legs right overlooking water.   Setting up the signature par 3 eleventh hole that will require an accurate shot to navigate the beautifully surrounded green by water, to the par 5 eighteenth hole that offers much risk/award.  The golf course is definitely worth playing on any Williamsburg Golf Package.

Question:  What is your favorite hole or stretch of holes at Kiskiack?  Please explain the hole and what you enjoy about it?

Answer:  All 18 holes, because each hole is different and has its own characteristics and uniqueness.  But, if he had to pick one, it would be number 18, due to the risk reward the long par 5 offers with water coming into play off of the tee.  Depending on playing conditions and wind the hole can play long or short.  You can take a risk and be rewarded if you challenge the water carry off of the tee and make it a two shot hole or if the wind is blowing the wrong direction it probably becomes a 3 shot hole to the green.  So, you have a chance to finish your round with a good score or finish with a higher score.

Question:  Do you have any tips or advice for a first time golfer on how to play the course?

Answer:  Be prepared to have fun, because the golf course is very player friendly.  What you see is what you get, with no blind shots or forced carries.  On the back nine, holes 10 through 14 avoid hitting the ball to far right.

Question:  For travelers considering Williamsbrug area as a golf destination, do you have any other courses in the area that you would recommend or really enjoy playing and any thought about these courses?

Answer:  Golden Horseshoe Gold Course due to its history and setting in Colonial Williamsburg, to go along with best par 3’s in Williamsburg and probably a lot of other areas, for that matter.  Viniterra is another area favorite based on the fact that for the better player it has a lot of length to it and has a great layout with unique holes.  Viniterra also is very playable and provides a solid 18 holes of golf from start to finish.

Question:  What are some of your favorite things about the Williamsburg area?

Answer:  Born and raised in Williamsburg enjoys the small town feel that provides a lot of things to do.  Between Busch Gardens, Water Country, plenty of shopping, and spending time on the river.  In between making trips to the mountains and the beach, Williamsburg provides a great family atmosphere and lots of interesting history

Question:  Any favorite local restaurants you would recommend?

Answer:  New York Deli, Oceans and Ale, Taco Mexicali are some local favorites.  Also, Williamsburg provides about every chain restaurant you can imagine with lots of out of town visitors, due to the local College in William and Mary and the many area attractions.

Question:  Things you would recommend out of golfers do or check in out while in area?

Answer:  Jamestown and Jamestown Island, there is a living history museum that provides lots of interesting history about the first settlers.  Yorktown offers plenty more history and the American Revolution Museum.  Colonial Williamsburg provides lots of history, to go along with closed off streets to walk and see actors in period costume portraying Colonial life in the streets, stores, and workshops.  Busch Gardens Amusement Park which has been voted the most beautiful in theme park in the country, provides themes from different countries and outstanding roller coasters and much more.  Water Country provides a really good water park with plenty to do.

Question:  Anything else that you think is interesting about the golf course, area, etc., that you think would be worth sharing or making golf travelers aware of?

Answer:  Williamsburg provides some really good golf courses and lots of things to do, located a short distance from I95, a shorter drive from a lot of other Southern Destinations.  Williamsburg is great golf destination that is a lot of times overlooked because other Southern Destinations are more heavily promoted or marketed.  Williamsburg has been rated a “Top 25” Golf Destinations, provides good year round whether and is becoming more and more popular due to great golf and travel time for golfers from the Northeast and Midwest.
